Ineffable Match

You are currently viewing Ineffable Match

The Ineffable Match is a card matching game in the style of Dobble for 2-8 players, created by tartan_is_stylish.

The goal is to identify the picture that is shared between two cards and name that picture as quickly as possible. The full instructions are available here:

As the game is entirely picture-based the game can be played in any language; rules for the original Dobble game are available in various languages on BoardGameGeek.

In case any are unclear, Tartan has also made a list of the English names of each picture; players can agree to accept different names.

Playing Online

To play online, download one of the files below and go to playingcards.io. Click on the importicon on the top menu bar and upload the .pcio file.

After uploading the file and entering the room, copy the URL and send it to your other players. When players enter the room, they can select a seat by clicking on “Sit here” next to one of the player seats.

In the 2-4 player version, everyone’s hand is visible, so when one player claims the card everyone else can verify that the item they called matches. In the 2-8 player version, each player can only see their own hand, to allow for more players without crowding the screen. When claiming a card in this version, the player should drag their card to the slot in the middle where other players will be able to see it and verify their match.

Instructions are available by hovering over “rules” at the side of the screen.

Playing in Person

Tartan has also generously provided files for printing your own set of cards for use at home:

If you’re attending The Ineffable Con in person, we also have a copy available to play in the Lounge.
