Our Good Omens themed Codenames can be played online using the official Codenames website Codenames.game.
Simply click on “Create Room”, choose a nickname and click “Create Room” again. In the setup screen, select “Custom Word Pack” and upload this word file (you will need to save it to your computer first).
Click “continue”, and share the URL of your game with players.
As people join, you need two people to click on “Join as Spymaster” (one for each team), and the remaining players should click “Join as Operative”, splitting evenly between the two teams.
The game is similar to Battleships, in that the Spymasters are trying to get the Operatives to guess words in specific positions, while avoiding opponents’ words and the Assassin square.
The Spymasters will take it in turns to give clues. Clues must be a single word followed by a number, e.g. “Angels: 2.” The number indicates how many words they think apply to their clue. The Operatives can discuss among themselves and may guess a number of words equal to the number given plus one (in this example, they would have three guesses). They guess the words one at a time: if they guess correctly, they can continue. If they guess a word from the opposing team or an innocent bystander, their turn ends and play passes to the opposing team. If they guess the Assassin word, the game ends and the opposing team wins.
The first team to guess all of their words correctly without locating the assassin wins the game.
