Event Details

Friday 22nd – Sunday 24th October 2021

The Ineffable Con 3 comes to you online, allowing all occult and ethereal beings from across the globe to join us once again.  TIC events are run by fans, for fans, and The Ineffable Con 3 is no different! We invite you to share your thoughts on all things Good Omens during our panels, meet creators in our Dealer’s Room and try your hand at one of our fiendish games during a weekend of celebrating all things Good Omens.

This year, we are asking members to pay what they can afford for tickets. As for both of the previous The Ineffable Cons, any surplus after costs (such as the hosting platform and prizes – all volunteers are exactly that, including the Chairs!) will be donated to Alzheimer’s Research UK in memory of Sir Terry Pratchett. It is the goal for The Ineffable Con 3 to reach £20,000 donated from TIC events since 2019 – at the moment, we sit at £14,549.32, and couldn’t be prouder of this wonderful fandom.

We can’t wait to host you once again – it’s all going to be rather lovely!

FAQs

What is The Ineffable Con?

The Ineffable Con is a series of not-for-profit events run by and for fans of the Good Omens book and series. Events have included the in-person The Ineffable Con, the virtual The Ineffable Con 2, and a series of online parties and rewatches. Surplus, and money raised from events, is donated to Alzheimer’s Research UK in memory of Sir Terry Pratchett. You can find the current total on the home page of our website. Please note that we are an unofficial convention, with no connection whatsoever to the BBC, Amazon Prime or Neil Gaiman.

Who is running The Ineffable Con?

The events are run entirely by fans, for fans. You can find out more about the organisers on the About Us page.

When is The Ineffable Con 3?

The Ineffable Con 3 will take place online between Friday 22nd and Sunday 24th October, the closest dates to Earth’s birthday on October 21st. The Ineffable Con is a UK convention, so the majority of scheduling will be in GMT, but we aim to have volunteers in all time zones to provide a range of activities. You can find out more information as it becomes available on our website.

Will The Ineffable Con 3 move to a physical convention if restrictions are lifted?

The Ineffable Con 3 will not move to a physical convention – it is designed to take place online. Although the move to online was a necessity in 2020, we are excited to be able to continue with online events, as they add geographic diversity and accessibility for the fandom worldwide.

Where will my data be held?

Your data will be stored on our web server, accessible only to The Ineffable Con organisers. As The Ineffable Con is a UK convention, we are bound by GDPR. You may also wish to read our privacy policy.

Do I have to download any software?

The Ineffable Con 3 panels will take place on a browser-based platform. Our social events, including The Ineffable Con 3 lounge, are hosted on Zoom. Whilst Zoom can be used in the browser, there are limitations that could hamper your enjoyment of the convention. Downloading the Zoom software (free) and making sure that you have updated your version before joining will make sure that you can move between breakout rooms without assistance and make the most of the options available to you.

Is there a limit on the number of places for the convention?

Unlike a physical convention, there is no limitation on space. However, early bookings allow us to better forecast our financial commitments, so we appreciate early bookings where possible!

Do I have to have a webcam and/or microphone?

If you are attending as a member, rather than as a presenter, you can interact with other members in both panels and the lounge using text chat only. If you are presenting, we ask that you have a webcam and mic where possible, for accessibility support, but it is not compulsory.

Why do I have to be over 13?

UK law prohibits us from taking data from anyone who is under 13 without a parent or guardian’s permission. If you are under 13, you can ask a parent or guardian to register on your behalf.

Can I share membership with a friend or family member?

Anyone sharing a computer to access the event need only have one membership between all computer users. You will need to hold separate memberships if you wish to use separate devices simultaneously.

What is there to do at The Ineffable Con 3?

Much like a physical convention, we’ll have panels, a vid show, games, a cosplay contest, a dealer’s room, a zine and more! You can see the schedule of panels on the Programme page.

Will the convention have subtitles?

Panels at TIC3 will all have automated captions. We also have a team of volunteers who will be working after the convention to edit those captions to improve the accuracy.

Are there day tickets available to The Ineffable Con 3?

All of the talks and panels will be available on our convention platform for members, regardless of how much of the live events they are able to attend. As such, there is no designation between a weekend ticket and a day ticket.

Are my credit/debit card details safe with you?

All of our card handling is done through Stripe. Stripe has been audited by a PCI-certified auditor and is currently certified to the most stringent level of certification in the industry. Your card details are never stored on or seen by our servers, or by The Ineffable Con team.

What does “name your price” mean?

We want to make The Ineffable Con 3 as accessible as possible to members globally. We know a fixed ticket price does not always convert into other currencies at an acceptable rate and we know there are many members of the fandom that have been affected financially by the pandemic and other personal circumstances. As such, we are inviting members to “name their price” and pay what they can afford.

The Ineffable Con 3’s budget is formed from ticket sales, so the quality of the convention – for example, subtitles, the hosting platform and prizes – will vary depending on income. Any surplus after costs will be donated to Alzheimer’s Research UK, in memory of Sir Terry Pratchett. For reference, a ticket to The Ineffable Con 2 was a flat price of £25, with an assistance scheme available.

I have an idea for a panel or a game. Can I send it to you?

CrowleyPointingUpwardsDotGIF – get in touch via email, we’d be glad to take your suggestion! You don’t have to run a panel should you suggest one, but we are also not able to guarantee that we’ll be able to find a volunteer for the topic. As always, we will do our best!

I am considering volunteering – what’s involved?

We have lots of volunteer roles, both ‘backstage’ and ‘front of house’. We would particularly welcome behind the scenes volunteers to manage the collation of the zine, vid show and cosplay competition, as well as run streaming for panels. Front of house roles include moderating chats, hosting a period of time in the lounge or being a panellist.

I would like to be a panellist. What’s involved?

Panels are usually 50 minutes in length and on a topic of your choice. You can present with like-minded fans, or alone, as you wish. Your choice of topic is exactly that – your choice – and can be a presentation, a chat or a combination. We will mark any adult topics as “NSFW” (“not safe for work”), so convention members can choose their programme items to suit.

I’d like to submit a vid. How can I do that?

Please see the Vid Show page.

I’d like to enter the cosplay competition. How can I do that?

Please see the Cosplay page.

I’d like to submit art or a fic for the zine. How can I do that?

Please see the Zine page.

How does the virtual dealer’s room work?

The convention will feature a virtual dealer’s room, where fans can show their projects, art work and more. Members can register for a ‘booth’, a page within the convention for the host to show their art work or project, chat to other members, provide live demos and link to external sites for sales.

Can I show explicit works in my booth?

Yes, you may; your booth will be marked as “NSFW” (“not safe for work”). You may have two booths, if you would like to host non-explicit work separately.
